Mechatronic Systems Engineering

ChithiGunatilake

Electronics and Controls Lead at ANU Formula Sport. I design safety-critical hardware for race cars — and lead the engineers who build it.

Hardware that has to work the first time.

01 / Profile

I'm a mechatronic systems engineering student at the Australian National University, with a completed physics and mathematics degree behind it. Most of my work sits where control theory meets a soldering iron: safety-critical circuits for Formula SAE vehicles, where a design either passes scrutineering and survives a race weekend, or it doesn't.

As Electronics and Controls Lead at ANU Formula Sport I run a team of five engineers, each owning a sub-project, while we plan the non-tractive electronics for a new electric vehicle and keep the existing combustion car running. Before university engineering, two years as an Army officer cadet at ADFA taught me how to plan, delegate and lead when conditions are bad — which turns out to be most of a competition build season.

I care about designs that are documented, testable and compliant: AEC-Q qualified parts, written test methodology, and rules traceability, rather than a board that works on the bench and nowhere else.
